Are topical treatments really better for a puppy versus a shampoo to prevent ticks? My puppy has been getting ticks and I've been using shampoo because I thought it was safer than a topical treatment. However, after reading some answers to my other question I am seeing that topical is recommended. Why is it safer? I do have a topical treatment called ';Proticall'; given by my vet but most people seem to be recommending Frontline and Advantix. Two questions...is topical safer? AND anyone heard of ';Proticall'; and had success? THANKS!Topical treatment versus shampoo?
ive never heard of protocall. So i know nothing about it. And yes topical treatment is better. Flea and tick shampoos are both very harsh on the dog's sensitive skin and can be toxic. I used to use a flea/tick shampoo on my dog before i knew how it was actually bad unless necessary and the shampoo made his skin very dry, itchy, and irritated.
